In the beginning of the twentieth century, a vast range of industry was implanted in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district: textile, baking, confectionery industry, footwear, etc. It’s in this context that a confectionery company, the National Licorice Co. of Brooklyn decided to establish its Canadian subsidiary in the district in 1907. Hershey Canada bought the factory in 1977 and closed it in 2008. It was later identified as a building of historical and architectural interest of exceptional value. In 2008, Atelier Chaloub was tasked with converting the old factory into a residential project, while maintaining the heritage of the building.
